THE CLINOMETER
A clinometer is used to measure angles and the common material being used is the protactor. Other materials needed are the drinking straw, thread, a five centavo, tape, tape measure / meter stick or other measuring devices. In our classroom, we measured the height of the ceiling.
To use the clinometer, look through the drinking straw using one eye pointing towards the edge of the ceiling. Tilt your protactor and see at what degree does your thread crosses. Repeat the process to at least five trials with different distances. Afterwards, just add the two numbers, the distance from the height of your eye to the base of the ceiling, and the distance from the tip of the ceiling to the height of your eye. I have learned that in using the clinometer, two measurements should be taken, the eye level to the base and the eye level to the top.
